Resident and business parking permits

Parking permits are required throughout the seven resident parking zones in Crawley. Find out more about parking zones and their locations.

During hours of operation, parking is permitted only in designated parking bays, by using an active virtual permit.

Signs are positioned adjacent to all parking bays showing the hours of operation and the type of parking permitted, for example ‘permit holders only’.

Within a zone there may also be limited waiting (pay and display) parking bays which are clearly indicated by road signs. Some limited waiting bays can be used by permit holders for unlimited stays, such as shared use bays.

Permits must only be used in the vehicle for which they were issued. If you need a temporary change of vehicle, please email us at parking.services@crawley.gov.uk. 

If you have changed your vehicle permanently, you will need to update your details on MiPermit.

Motorcycles may park in any permit, pay and display or shared use bay free of charge with no time restriction.

There are a range of on-street permits available for residents, visitors, non-residents and businesses.

Residents in parking zones can purchase permits for six or 12 months at a time with a reduced rate for the first car. There is also a price reduction for low emission vehicles. Blue Badge holders can park for free but will require a resident’s blue badge permit.

To obtain a resident permit we will need to see proof of address dated within the last three months. Bank statements and utility bills are acceptable. Unfortunately, we can no longer accept driver's licence as proof of address. 

Resident visitor permits are available for two hours, daily or weekly (seven consecutive days). You can mix and match visitor permits up to the value of £25 per 30-day period.

Non-resident permits include options for non-residents, carers, healthcare and charity workers, and traders which enable qualifying users to park in resident parking bays in controlled parking zones without time limit. Countywide worker permits are also available for those working for a local authority or a government department. We also offer a permit for Langley Green shopkeepers.

Healthcare worker permits allows you to park at the location for a maximum of three hours.

A dispensation allows a vehicle to park in a regulated on-street resident parking bay, pay and display bay or limited wait parking bay on payment of a daily or weekly charge. Pay and siaply areas are in West Green, High Street and Telford Place.

Dispensation notices may be issued to businesses and trades people in cases where a vehicle is required to park where it would not normally be allowed, for example a permit bay, to provide easy access to tools and equipment while working at a property. In most cases, notices are issued to commercial and works vehicles only. Find out more on dispensations on our MiPermit portal.
 

Suspensions of parking bays on street, may be arranged for various reasons including public utilities (gas, water and electric) companies, house or office removals or essential deliveries (building materials), funerals or weddings, essential work on the highway, the placement of skips, special events, facilitating the movement of traffic for safety reasons.

Parking bay suspensions are only offered for areas that are pay and display, permit holders, Blue Badge bays. There are charges for those outside a controlled parking zone (CPZ) and those inside a CPZ.  The cost is calculated on application. There is a maximum time of 84 days that we will arrange a suspension. Any time longer will need a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) arranged by WSCC.

New developments are excluded from resident permit schemes because the requirement for parking is considered through the planning process. However, we may be able to offer a resident permit to people living in new developments if there is sufficient space available in nearby roads. Renewal is not guaranteed upon expiry.
