Residents can now save money on solar panels with the help of a new scheme.
Crawley Borough Council is working in partnership with local authorities across Sussex and Solar Together Crawley on an innovative new scheme, offering high-quality solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery storage.
Solar Together Crawley is a group-buying scheme, which brings households together to get high-quality solar panels at a competitive price, using iChoosr – an independent group-buying specialist, which has been organising schemes since 2008. The council previously worked with iChoosr, helping residents save up to £200 on their annual energy bills.
Solar Together Crawley aims to remove any confusion and support residents throughout the process, keeping them informed at every stage:
- Registration – register online for free before 6 October. The more people register, the better the deal for each household and there is no obligation to accept the resulting offer
- Auction - an auction will be held on 6 October where pre-vetted installers submit bids. The most competitive package will win the auction
- Personal recommendation – from 26 October you will be emailed a personal recommendation, based on your registration details. This includes your costs and specifications of your installation
- You decide – the decision is then yours as to whether you want to accept your recommendation. There is no obligation to continue. You will have until 11 December to decide
- Installation – if you accept, the winning supplier will contact you to survey your roof and set an installation date. All installations are planned to be completed by the end of May 2021
This scheme also applies to small and medium-sized enterprises who can apply in the same way.
This is fantastic, tried and tested scheme that will enable residents to access greener energy for less. Navigating the purchase of solar panels can be confusing, but this makes the process easier and more straightforward, ensuring residents get the best deal available. Even if you’re not sure at the moment, I would encourage as many residents to sign up as possible.
