Crawley Borough Council is sharing new government guidance for taxi drivers, operators and passengers to travel safely.

The guidance includes details on national restrictions, as well as how to carry out a Covid-19 risk assessment, which covers picking up passengers, in-vehicle safety, leaving the vehicle and preparing a vehicle for the next passenger.

The Hackney Carriage and Private Hire guidance also covers what to do if drivers have coronavirus symptoms or have been told to self-isolate, sources of financial help for drivers as well as health information for both drivers and passengers.

Drivers are encouraged to:

  • Clean vehicle touch points before and after every journey
  • Sanitise or wash their hands
  • Ventilate their vehicle for five minutes between each hiring
  • Open windows when driving instead of recirculating air
  • Wear a face covering, if possible
  • Ask passengers to sit as far away as possible

Passengers are encouraged to:

  • Sanitise or wash their hands
  • Wear a face covering, unless they are exempt from doing so
  • Sit as far away from the driver as possible
  • Keep windows open

I’d urge drivers and passengers to act upon this advice for the safety of all. We continue to work with the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire trade in Crawley, signposting drivers and operators to sources of support and advice.
