If you’ve visited Tilgate Nature Centre over the past months, you might have been lucky enough to see the baby capybara.

The little one was born on 1 June, to first-time parents Carol and Clarence who have taken to parenthood just like a capybara to water.

The trio are enjoying spending time together in their paddock, often seen splashing around in the water together or having a cuddle. The baby is also very keen on getting head scratches from the keepers, but she still doesn’t have a name!

The Crawley Borough Council-owned centre is throwing open the chance to name the pup.

I’m sure Tilgate’s visitors have been as charmed by the capybara pup as I was, so we hope she’ll have a name that really suits her chosen by the public.

Over the last few months, the centre has been asking visitors to suggest names for her, all beginning with the letter ‘C’.

The keepers have created a shortlist, and it is being put to the public vote. Choose from:

  • Charlotte
  • Clara
  • Cassandra
  • Cauliflower (Caully)
  • Consuela

The Tilgate Nature Centre’s Facebook page is the place to vote and see what else is happening with the animals there.

So, what do you think she should be called? Check out the list of names and vote for your favourite. Keep an eye on our Facebook page, we’ll be announcing the winning name soon.
