Employ Crawley is celebrating five years of helping hundreds of local residents into employment.
Created by Crawley Borough Council, in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Employ Crawley was set up to support people moving into work or progressing into the next stages of their career or training.
The service started out as a one-year pilot at Crawley Library in October 2017 and now also has a hub in the Town Hall with outreach in the community. The service provides an over 25s adviser based at Crawley Library, and a youth employment support officer, working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, who works with economically inactive 18-24 year olds based at the Town Hall.
The free service helps residents access a range of local job opportunities alongside tailored information, advice and guidance during one-to-one appointments, to support them on their employment journey. It offers a uniquely holistic approach to employment support, helping people overcome barriers into employment and raising aspirations and self-esteem.
The Employ Crawley Team also connects people with partnership organisations and businesses enabling them to benefit from the wide range of services, information and initiatives that can be offered to support local skills and employability needs.
Employ Crawley now has a dedicated Youth Employment Support Hub. Its main aim is to empower young economically inactive Crawley residents aged 18-24 by providing them with access to intensive employment support and skills training, managed via a “one-stop shop” employment hub with access to service providers, who work closely together to help young people find new jobs and alternative careers.
Since its launch five years ago, the Employ Crawley service has had thousands of interventions with local residents and helped residents into hundreds of jobs. It has also provided access to successful partnership workshops as well as jobs fairs and is proof that partnership working really can benefit our local community in their journey to find work. We are delighted this partnership is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Helping people into work strengthens our local economy and it is fantastic that Employ Crawley has been there to provide a really important service that has given wraparound support to thousands of jobseekers already. For us, the service also fits in perfectly with the West Sussex Libraries ethos of being a hub for people in the local community, as many people come into our libraries needing help and advice, and to have this kind of offer available in person is something I know a lot of people really appreciate.

Job seekers over the age of 25 can arrange an appointment with Employ Crawley via employcrawley@crawley.gov.uk or by calling Tracy on 01293 438554. The library hub is situated on the second floor of Crawley Library and is open for drop-ins and appointments between the hours of 10am and 3pm, Monday to Thursday.
Job seekers aged 18 to 24 can email employcrawley@crawley.gov.uk or call Joe on 01293 438555 to arrange a virtual or face-to-face appointment in the youth employment support hub. The hub in the Town Hall is open for drop-ins Monday to Thursday between 10am and 3pm.
