Almost 7,000 households are set to receive £25 each from Crawley Borough Council by the end of the month.

This additional payment is being made from the Discretionary Energy Rebate Fund, which was undersubscribed when the application deadline passed.

Crawley Borough Council was given £201,750 to grant £150 payments towards energy bills for those who were not eligible under the terms of the core and band A-D energy rebate schemes earlier this year.

However, this scheme was undersubscribed so the council has decided that the best way to spend the remaining money – around £174,000 – is to give a payment of £25 to households in the Council Tax Reduction Scheme, as well as disabled people, students and carers – a total of 6,964 properties.

Of this figure, 1,318 customers will receive a £25 credit on their Council Tax account. The remaining 5,646 will receive £25 in their bank account by 31 October.

Despite a lot of promotion, the discretionary scheme was undersubscribed so I’m delighted that we’ve been able to reallocate the funds.

£25 may be a modest amount but I hope that this payment provides a little bit of comfort to those who receive it and that it helps in some way with the cost of living crisis.
