Last month, a local primary school welcomed the return of Bike It Pat from Crawley Borough Council partner, Sustrans.
Bike It Pat delivered two successful Dr Bike sessions at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Primary School in Langley Green, with more than 20 pupils bringing in bikes and scooters each session.
Each bike and scooter was given a full safety check, making sure all brakes and tyres were in good working order. Further recommendations for improvements were sent to parents.
The sessions are part of the school’s efforts to encourage children to cycle and scoot to school to help reduce congestion and care for the environment, but be more active.
These sessions are a great way to teach children how to look after their bikes and scooters, while enabling and encouraging them to adopt healthier, more sustainable habits. On behalf of the council, I am incredibly pleased to support the work of Bike It Pat and Sustrans in our local community.

The work of Sustrans has been of huge benefit to our whole community, supporting parents, children and staff in developing our approach to sustainable travel, healthy lifestyles and a better environment for all. The children love the regular visits from Bike It Pat and we’re proud of being the first school in Crawley to achieve the Bike It Gold Award.

Bike It Pat will be back at OLQOH for a ‘Bust the Rust’ session which will focus on replacing parts that have been affected by rust and encouraging children to keep their bikes out of the rain.
