The Householder Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted on 1 June 2026, following public consultation which took place from 26 February 2026 until 26 March 2026.

The Householder development SPD reflects and expands upon the policies in the adopted Crawley borough Local Plan 2023 to 2040, providing supporting guidance to assist applicants in meeting the Local Plan requirements. This includes the guidance in relation to:

• householder extensions and alterations
• energy and water efficiency for alterations and extensions
• flood risk guidance for householder development
• wildlife enhancements

The SPD forms part of the development plan for Crawley and is an important consideration in determining planning applications. It replaces the guidance for householder development set out in the Urban design SPD 2016, guidance for householder development in relation to flood risk set out in the Climate change SPD 2016 and Guidance note: Energy and Water Efficiency for Alterations and Extensions to Buildings 2016.
