Building control enforcement

Crawley Borough Council has a statutory duty to enforce the Building Regulations within the borough and will seek to secure compliance through advice, guidance and constructive engagement wherever possible. Where building work fails to comply with legal requirements, presents a risk to health or safety, or where responsible parties fail to take appropriate corrective action, we may take formal enforcement action using the powers available under the Building Act 1984, the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated legislation.

Our approach to enforcement is proportionate, consistent, transparent and risk-based, with the primary objective of protecting public safety and securing compliance with the Building Regulations.
