A grant from Crawley Borough Council has helped create an innovative photography exhibition at Crawley Museum.

Capturing Lockdown 2020 brings both professional and community captured images of the first lockdown to the museum, on the High Street.

Back in the early days of the first lockdown, Linda Woodard, a Crawley-based photographer, came up with an idea to permanently record this unprecedented time. She decided to photograph people on their doorsteps with items that represented their lockdown experience.

LPK Learning Community Interest Company was awarded £5,100 by the council for its projects in 2021. It used some of this funding to extend the exhibition by asking residents to send in their own lockdown photos.

More than 300 photos later and after a year’s delay due to more COVID-19 restrictions, this wonderful collection of professional and community photos is on show to the community that helped shape the project.

Lockdown has been an extraordinary and sometimes painful chapter in all of our lives. It is something that we will no doubt remember for many years to come. It is therefore a great idea to put together something that remembers this unprecedented time. It was a real pleasure to visit the exhibition at Crawley Museum and I would recommend everyone takes the chance to come down and see it while it is on. Entry to the museum is free and there are always many interesting things to see and learn about!
