The population of Crawley’s newest neighbourhood, Forge Wood, is growing in size, with the 200th council tenant moving into their property earlier this year.

The latest additions are part of the council’s ambitious programme to build more than 1,000 new council homes across Crawley, including more accessible properties for residents.

The first council tenants moved into Forge Wood in April 2016 so the neighbourhood has quickly grown in size and popularity. Another 66 new council homes are proposed for this year and once Forge Wood is complete about 500 council homes will have been built in the neighbourhood.

The tenant of this brand new home said: “We’re really happy and very grateful. We were all living in one room and we now have more space for the children and the whole family.”

I am delighted with the success of these new homes and to hear the positive impact it has on families in Crawley is heart- warming.

Building new, affordable homes for our residents is one of our top priorities even during hard times and we continue to make great progress.

Cllr Ian Irvine

Cabinet Member for Housing

Crawley Borough Council
