12 housing maintenance apprentices start careers at council

Crawley Borough Council’s housing maintenance contractors have recruited 12 apprentices, providing them with their first steps on the career ladder.

Liberty, Mears and Wates have all recruited apprentices to help maintain the council’s housing stock of more than 8,000 homes across the town.

The council requested this number of apprentices be employed across the term of the contracts, but the three contractors have recruited them all early in the contract to give them and the council the maximum benefit.

The council and its contractors work closely with Crawley College, where our apprentices will learn skills towards their qualifications.

Liberty has recruited two gas apprentices.

Mears have recruited five apprentices – a carpenter, two electricians, a carpenter/multi-skilled worker and a plumber.

Wates have also recruited five apprentices – four carpenter/multi-skilled workers and a bricklayer.

Crawley Homes, the council’s housing service, has recruited a Housing Apprentice and an Apprentice Building Surveyor.
