High risk foods of non-animal origin (HRFNAO)
Foods imported from outside the European Union are required to comply with the Official Feed and Food Controls Regulations 2009.
Some products that do not contain any dairy or meat (NAO) are also subject to increased levels of checks due to known or emerging problems. These foods are listed on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website.
You are required to give one day’s advanced notification to Port Health of high-risk products by submitting Part 1 of the Common Health Entry Document (CHEDD).
CHEDDs can only be submitted via the IPAFFS system. A copy of the CHEDD and supporting documents (air waybill, invoice and packing list) must be emailed to the Imported Food team or attached to the IPAFFS entry.
Further information on the checking of high-risk foods of non-animal origin (HRFNAO) can be found on the Food Standards Agency website.
