Allotment questions and answers

Are there any plots available?

Currently there are waiting lists at all sites so you must apply to be added to the waiting list. Visit our Apply for an allotment webpage for more information and to fill in an application form

You will be contacted once your name is at the top of the list and a plot becomes available.

How long is the waiting list?

Waiting time varies by site but on average any applicant can expect to wait two years before receiving an offer. This period could be longer for the more popular sites.

Please fill in our enquiry form to find out about waiting times at our sites.

Is the cost of water included in rental?

Yes, water is included in your rental fee. There are water taps at all allotments for allotment holders to use.

The supply is turned off from October to April each year to prevent frost damage to pipes and taps.

Can I use a hosepipe?

No hosepipes are not permitted, all main watering is to be completed by hand. All allotment sites have standpipes where you can fill buckets and watering cans.

If you have any mobility or disability issues that are affected by this, please contact us vis our enquiry form

Can I bring my dog to the site?

Yes, well-behaved dogs can be brought to the site. They need to be kept on a lead and within the boundary of your plot.

Can I keep bees, hens or ducks?

Bees, hens and ducks can be kept with our written permission. Please contact us via our enquiry form to discuss this

Can I park on site?

What can I grow on my plot?

You can grow fruit, vegetables and cut flowers for your personal use. Growing for commercial purposes is not permitted. Fruit trees on larger plots are permitted. All trees must be on a dwarfing root stock and be maintained to within a maximum height of two metres.

Can I have a bonfire?

We do not encourage bonfires as they are not the most eco friendly way of disposing of garden waste and can cause nuisance and disrupt other allotment users. Therefore, if there is another method to dispose of waste, please use this.

Can I put up a shed, greenhouse or polytunnel?

Sheds, greenhouses and polytunnels can be put up on plots with our written permission. Please contact us via our enquiry form to discuss your requirements and gain permission.

Sheds must be no bigger than six foot by four foot and be entirely erected within your plot. There is no limit on greenhouses or polytunnels as long as they are used to cultivate crops.

Can I have more than one plot?

We can only offer additional plots to existing tenants and only if there is no waiting list. Please contact us using our enquiry form and we will let you know if you can apply or not.
