Council Tax information
What is Council Tax?
Council Tax is a local tax that helps fund essential services in Crawley, such as refuse collection, road maintenance, and social care. It applies to all domestic properties.
The amount you pay depends on:
- the Council Tax band assigned to your property by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA). Bands range from A (lowest) to H (highest), based on the property’s market value as of 1 April 1991
- the annual budget set by Crawley Borough Council, West Sussex County Council, the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, and any applicable parish and town councils
Your bill itemises how much is allocated to each authority and any changes from the previous year.
Appeal
You can appeal your Council Tax if you think you are not liable to pay or should receive a discount:
- email taxation@crawley.gov.uk
- call 01293 438616
