Single person discount

Your Council Tax bill is based on two adults (aged 18 or over) living in a property as their sole or main residence.

A 25 per cent discount applies when only one adult lives in the property as their main home.

If you are now the only adult living at the address, or you have recently moved into a property on your own, please email taxation@crawley.gov.uk to tell us and include the information detailed below, depending on your circumstances:

If you have recently moved into the property and are the only adult resident, please include:

• your full name and address
• the date you moved into the property
• confirmation that you are the only adult aged 18 or over living there as your main residence

If another adult has moved out of the property, please include:

• your full name and address
• the full name of the person who has moved out
• the date they vacated the property
• their new address (if you don't know their new address, tell us what you do know. For example, town or country)
• whether the move is permanent (if not, explain the situation and whether they intend to return)
• whether they were an owner or tenant (if they were named on the tenancy or ownership, confirm what steps are being taken to remove them, for example the tenancy has been updated or a legal transfer is in progress)

Requests may be delayed if this information is not provided.

If you are receiving a single person discount, you must tell us within 21 days if another adult moves into your property. You may be fined up to £70 if you do not inform us.
