The winners of the 2020 Crawley Community Awards have been announced.

The Crawley Community Awards, with Gatwick Airport as headline sponsor, are now in their fifth year. The awards celebrate and recognise those special people who go the extra mile to make a difference to their community.

The presentation evening, which was planned for March, wasn’t able to go ahead this year due to the outbreak of coronavirus. However, judging had already taken place so organisers Crawley Borough Council, The Hawth and Crawley Observer were still able to award winners for each category.

The very worthy winners of the 2020 awards are:

  • Achievement (sponsored by Optime Group) – Farah Ali Khan
  • Charity (sponsored by Blakedown Landscapes) – Crawley Open House
  • Community Group (sponsored by Metrobus) – Crawley Town Community Foundation
  • Education (sponsored by CITB) – Katie Jordan
  • Environment – Thomas Simpson
  • Fundraiser – Patrick McIntosh
  • Group Achievement – XIX (Crawley) Squadron RAF Air Cadets
  • Inspiration (sponsored by the Arora Group) – Graham Cridland
  • Local Hero – Nicholas Hahn
  • Performing Arts – Louise Ryrie
  • Special Recognition – Robert Groves
  • Sports Person (sponsored by Everyone Active) – Karl Youngman
  • Sports Team – Crawley Parkour
  • Support Group (sponsored by County Mall) – Super Siblings
  • Volunteer – Katie Schollar
  • Volunteer Group – Upon Butterfly Wings

Each winner has been sent a video clip, filmed in an empty Hawth theatre with presenter Duff Eynon opening the gold envelopes, reading out the names of the winners and sharing information about why they have been recognised.

Once the Town Hall reopens, winners will be able to collect their certificates and prizes. Visit crawleycommunityawards.org for the full video, which also includes a welcome message from the Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Francis Guidera.

It is a little different this year as we are not able to meet in person. As Mayor of Crawley, I would like to thank all of the nominees for all of the work you have been putting in this past year and a half and congratulate this year’s winners. Thank you for everything you do for our community. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our sponsors, the Crawley Observer, The Hawth Theatre, Parkwood Theatres, Crawley Borough Council and Gatwick Airport. Again, thank you for everything you do for our town.

Cllr Francis Guidera

Mayor

Crawley
