The Water Angels will be back in Crawley this Christmas to ‘keep a good night good’ by handing out drinking water.

The Water Angels campaign, launched in 2014, is aimed at 18-24 year olds and aims to reduce alcohol-related harm, violence, crime and disorder (including ambulance call-outs and A&E attendances), by encouraging people to drink water as part of their night out and keep a good night good.

Research found that young adults often avoid drinking water on a night out because they don’t want to queue at the bar and miss out on fun with their friends. It was also found that they often forget to drink water, sometimes just never getting round to it, or they see it as a sign of weakness.

Water Angel’s message is that by drinking water between alcoholic drinks, people can stay out longer and help to prevent a hangover by staying hydrated. The Angels hand out drinking water to revellers and encourage its consumption.

And the message to the town’s licensed premises is if their customers are encouraged to drink responsibly by also taking in water they’re more likely to stay out longer and cause less trouble. This means more money spent on the night-time economy, less money spent clearing up and lots more happy people the morning after.

I’m delighted to see the Water Angels back in town for another festive season.

They’ve been well received by party-goers in previous years and help people to enjoy themselves safely and responsibly.
