Crawley Borough Council has completed a deep clean of Tilgate Parade and installed bird deterrent spikes as part of ongoing efforts to improve the shopping parade for residents, businesses and customers.
The work was carried out in response to concerns about the impact of pigeons on the area, particularly the accumulation of bird droppings, which affect the appearance of the parade and create additional cleaning challenges.
As part of the improvement works, the council arranged for a specialist deep clean of the parade and installed bird deterrent spikes on suitable locations to help discourage pigeons from roosting.
While the measures have not completely resolved the issue, they have made a positive difference and represent the first stage of a longer-term approach to improving the area.
We know residents and businesses have been concerned about the impact pigeons have had on Tilgate Parade and wanted to take practical action to address the problem. The deep clean has helped improve the appearance of the parade and the bird deterrent spikes should help reduce pigeon activity. We recognise there is still more work to do, but this is a positive start, and we will continue to monitor the situation and consider what further measures may be needed. Tilgate Parade is an important local shopping area, and the council will continue to work with businesses and residents to help keep it clean, welcoming and attractive for everyone who uses it.
