Crawley Borough Council has awarded a total of £6,268 from its small grants fund to five local voluntary and community organisations.

Small grants of between £50 and £2,500 are available for not-for-profit groups who aim to foster greater levels of community activity through their projects and events for Crawley residents and visitors to the borough.

The latest grants are:

  • £2,340 to West Sussex Music (Trust) towards venue costs, music teaching and tutoring provision, arts administration support and instrument transport to deliver inclusive music education and performance opportunities for children and young people
  • £678 to Crawley Jumma Group towards venue hire costs to support a women's group providing health, welfare and learning opportunities for Asian women and older people
  • £500 to Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity towards a family support worker role delivering early-intervention therapy and support for young children with cerebral palsy, motor-learning disabilities and rare genetic conditions
  • £1,250 to Crawley Cricket Club towards coaching sessions and equipment for a community cricket programme offering free or low-cost activities for young people and families
  • £1,500 to Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SASBAH) towards a social inclusion support worker and local group meetings for people affected by spina bifida, hydrocephalus and other disabilities, including carers

Our voluntary and community organisations play a vital role in supporting residents and bringing people together. These small grants help local groups continue delivering valuable activities and services that improve health and wellbeing, create opportunities for children, young people and families, and strengthen community connections across Crawley. We are pleased to support such a diverse range of projects that make a positive difference to people's lives.

Cabinet member for Community Engagement and Culture

Crawley Borough Council

We are pleased to accept this grant from Crawley Borough Council that enables us to support some of the most vulnerable members of society. This grant will enable us to offer professional advice and guidance to disabled residents of Crawley at a time when costs of living are squeezing budgets. Disabled residents will also be able to mitigate loneliness and isolation by taking part in accessible and inclusive face-to-face events and support group meetings and through online activities such as a women’s advice group, art and games.

SASBAH Trusts Fundraiser

Councillor Sue Mullins recently visited one of the small grant recipients, SASBAH, to see the valuable impact of supporting small charities like these.

SASBAH is also a member of the Crawley Disability Forum which is made up of organisations, clubs and individuals who have a shared interest in providing and developing sports and leisure provisions for disability users or groups. The forum meets regularly, with the next meeting taking place at 1pm on Wednesday 9 December in the Wellbeing Room at K2 Leisure Centre. Any local groups wanting to join the Crawley Disability Forum should contact John Dale, Community Development Officer, on telephone 01293 4384212 or email at john.dale@crawley.gov.uk.

The small grants scheme is open to all voluntary and community organisations whose activities take place in, or benefit, the Crawley area. Typically, the council awards a grant or funding contribution to most proposals that are eligible for support. It also provides match funding opportunities. Find out the small grants eligibility criteria and online application form.

For more information about applying, please contact Craig Downs, Funding and Commissioning Officer at Crawley Borough Council, on 01293 438763.
