Crawley Borough Council’s continued support for Love Local Jobs’ Dare to Dream programme has helped 1,200 students from six schools in the town.
Dare to Dream is an inspirational programme created by the LoveLocalJobs Foundation, a community interest company (CIC), which aims to support the self-awareness, resilience, employability skills and wellbeing of young people..
The programme aims to motivate young people and give them vital life skills to prepare them for their future careers.
Since September, the programme has helped 1,200 students at The Gatwick School, Hazelwick School, Ifield Community College, Oriel High School, St Wilfrid’s Catholic School and Thomas Bennett Community College gain workplace experiences and the skills and confidence to fulfil their potential.
Each school had a Year 9 programme and The Gatwick School also had a Year 11 programme.
The programme lead is radio celebrity, Jack ‘the Lad’ Hayes, who is using his skills to engage with youth audiences and is supported by volunteers from local employers who participate as mentors. Staff from B&CE, PwC UK, Gatwick Airport, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and First Central Insurance & Technology Group have all helped to enable this year’s programme.
Dare to Dream is a great project which doesn't just inspire pupils but also gives them chances to explore themselves and their own skills. I've been lucky to be part of this project three times and it never fails to inspire me and all the staff and pupils involved. The mentoring side is fantastic as it allows pupils to build relationships and have honest conversations with people that aren't their teachers or peers. This allows pupils to be more open and really be honest with themselves.

We are immensely grateful to the staff at Gatwick Airport who are giving their time to support our young people, helping them consider their future career prospects.

The council has previously taken part in other LoveLocalJobs initiatives, including Be the Change for several years, as part of its long-term commitment to development the skills and employment prospects of young people in Crawley.
