Crawley Borough Council is proudly supporting the fourth year of Be the Change, an exciting programme aimed at motivating students to be the best version of themselves.

Be the Change is an inspirational programme organised by The LoveLocalJobs Foundation CIC that engages with disengaged Year nine students who face challenges in school or in their personal lives.

Across three separate conference events, the programme aims to:

  • Have a positive impact on the happiness, confidence and hope of young people, and improve their relationships with others
  • Inspire young people to consider their route into employment
  • Inspire young people to change their own behaviour and circumstances.

The latest programme launched on 22 October and this year students from Ifield Community College, Hazelwick School, St Wilfrids Catholic School, Oriel High School and Holy Trinity CofE Secondary School will have the opportunity to be mentored by local business volunteers from businesses including PwC, Natwest, L3 Harris, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and Crawley Borough Council.

This year in the run up to the launch, Latifah, a previous student attendee of Be the Change, wrote about her experience describing it as one of the best things to happen in her life.

I am delighted the council is supporting this programme again. It’s instrumental in addressing the challenges faced by some students, encouraging them to make positive changes and work towards creating a successful future for themselves.

So many people leave school without the tools, confidence or belief to realise their full potential and Be the Change helps ensure our local next generation can thrive, irrespective of any barriers that may be in their way. Anybody can work to be the best they can be; it’s our commitment to give them the tools, confidence and inspiration to do so. We’ve seen outstanding outcomes from all Be the Change programmes and we are looking forward to making a positive difference to the young people involved in the programme this year.
