About the role
These are exciting times at Crawley Borough Council and we would love for you to be part of the next stage of our journey!
We have recently completed the first phase of our Community Services Division restructure and we are currently looking to appoint a talented, passionate and focused professional to lead and manage the newly established Public Protection & Enforcement team through the next phase. You’ll play a key role in the review, planning and delivery of improved regulatory services for Crawley Borough Council.
We are a dynamic organisation with an ambitious transformation programme of change, including moving into a new modern Town Hall at the beginning of 2022. This will allow us to embrace a more agile way of working, including the flexibility to work from the office, home or on the move.
As a key member of the division’s senior management team, you will bring proven leadership to the council’s environmental health, licensing, community safety and community warden and parking functions. You will be a strong team player with a preference for empowering your teams, making the most of their talents and strengths, to deliver the right outcomes for our town and community. Drawing on your strong emotional intelligence and integrity, you will instinctively know which approach and style is needed to address a situation and be highly effective in adopting it. When necessary, you’re not afraid to have difficult conversations.
Whilst a formal EH qualification is not essential, the successful candidate must have relevant and recent managerial experience incorporating environmental health and / or licensing services with sound knowledge of the relevant legislation and its application at both an operational and strategic level. You will possess the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to support your teams to undertake investigations, interventions and enforcement across the breadth of services.
You will be degree educated with the intellectual capacity and ability to quickly grasp new areas of work and make decisions that stand up to scrutiny. Experience of other relevant front line services would be an advantage.
We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible, as we may close this advert before the stated closing date if enough applications are received.
We offer a generous employee benefits package, with a range of discounts, benefits and wellbeing incentives to suit everyone.
Our way of working
Our shared values and behaviours reflect the special nature of our council. We encourage all colleagues to put them into practice, whatever job they do. Take a look to see if we are the perfect match.
Crawley Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
