About the role
We currently operate two cemeteries and 20 allotment sites. Little Trees Cemetery on the southern boundary of the town, near Pease Pottage and Snell Hatch Cemetery with allotment sites throughout the town.
As Cemeteries and Allotments Assistant your main focus will be to support our Allotments Officer in the upkeep and maintenance of our 20 allotment sites. In addition you will be working as part of a small team responsible for the day to day operation of both cemetery sites.
Duties at the allotment sites will include:
- Strimming
- Grass cutting
- Clearance of plots
Duties at the cemeteries will include:
- Marking out
- Digging
- Preparing and back-filling graves
- Maintaining the high-quality landscaped grounds.
You should have proven experience of using plant machinery, hedge cutters, strimmer and ride on mowers along with a current UK driving licence (category B).
In addition to the use of both hand and power tools, the role does require the use of a small 360 degree digger and a small dumper, both of which the successful candidate will need to be experienced or certificated to operate, or have a willingness to train and pass a certification within 6 months of the agreed start date.
You will need to have very good verbal communication skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy in order to deal with customers and public appropriately.

Required to participate as part of a standby rota for Saturday burials.
