About the role
If you’re keen to take your first steps in a property maintenance and refurbishment career, this could be an ideal opportunity for you.
The apprenticeship will involve a mix of on and off the job learning within our Crawley Homes service. Working with our talented surveyors you will get hands on experience as a valued member of our responsive repairs and planned maintenance teams. You’ll learn about inspecting properties, carrying out condition surveys, specifying repairs and building work, signing off work, making payments and how to resolve disputes with contractors and customers. Shadowing experienced members of the team as they visit construction sites and tenants’ homes, you’ll also get exposure to how to carry out surveys in all manner of environmental conditions.
Formal learning and study will take place on a weekly day release basis with our training provider based in London. The training will provide you with the skills, knowledge and experience to enhance your career prospects at the end of the apprenticeship. Your will also gain a Level 3 Surveying Technician Apprenticeship (or equivalent).
To succeed in this role you need to be able to get to grips with technical subjects and be prepared to apply yourself to your studies. You will hold 5+ GCSEs or equivalent at grades 9 9-4 (A*-C) including maths and English Language (or predicted grades). A positive attitude towards customers, plus enthusiasm, flexibility, reliability and self-motivation are also essential.

This apprenticeship is a 24 month fixed term contract, and ideally you will be available to start your apprenticeship in late August/early September.
This is an advanced level apprenticeship, equivalent to 2 A level passes. If you already have 50% or more work experience or prior learning of the skills, knowledge and behaviours of the Surveying Technician Apprenticeship Standard, we will be unable to shortlist you for this opportunity.
You must have the right to live and work in England. As this is a Government funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years. You are not currently enrolled on another apprenticeship or further / higher education programme and do not already hold a qualification at level 3 or above in surveying or a closely related subject.
Please consider the distance to travel to work in the Town Hall, Crawley and the cost of this in relation to the apprenticeship wage. Once settled into the role, your working week might include a mix of working from home and our Town Hall.
