We are asking for your views on more detailed proposals to create a town council for Crawley. This includes how the town council could work in terms of the ward names, ward boundaries and number of town councillors for each ward. This consultation is a Community Governance Review (CGR). You can find out more about how CGR works on our dedicated webpage.
Why create a town council?
The government has recently proposed that local government is reorganised, which would mean that Crawley Borough Council would cease to exist. Crawley Borough Council will be replaced by a new unitary council in 2028 that will operate across a much wider area. Crawley will therefore no longer have its own voice in its current footprint or the same ability to shape future services or facilities.
In October 2025 the council issued an initial consultation inviting residents, businesses, community groups and those who work or have an interest in Crawley, to share their views on whether a town council for Crawley should be created. 72 per cent of the responses received indicated overall support for the creation of a town council.
