What is antisocial behaviour?
Antisocial behaviour (ASB) is conduct that:
- has caused, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person
- is capable of causing nuisance or annoyance to a person in relation to that person's occupation of residential premises, or
- is capable of causing housing-related nuisance or annoyance to any person
Example of antisocial behaviour
Noise nuisance is an unreasonable level of noise that has a negative impact on others on a regular basis
What is not considered antisocial behaviour?
These are examples of what we do not consider to be antisocial behaviour:
- children playing in the street or communal areas - unless they are causing damage to property
- young people gathering socially - unless they are rowdy, inconsiderate and being intimidating to individuals
- inconsiderate parking or being unable to park outside your own home
- disputes over property or boundaries
- DIY and off-road car repairs - unless creating a noise nuisance
- personal disputes, such as people not being pleasant to each other but not sufficiently serious to justify our involvement
- cooking smells
- domestic noise or everyday living noise within a household, such as flushing toilets, household appliances, or noise from moving around, normal behaviour related to working patterns such as shift work
What we cannot deal with
We cannot deal with anything that requires an immediate response, as our team is a casework service not an emergency response service.
