Clinical Waste

Hypodermic needles and hazardous clinical wastes should never be disposed of and placed out with your normal rubbish. Crawley Borough Council has a collection service for certain types of clinical waste from householders.

Sharp boxes and clinical waste sacks are supplied and the service is provided by a contractor called Medisort Limited on our behalf.

The clinical waste service is a free service for NHS patients treating themselves at home.

How do I arrange a collection?

Complete a clinical waste collection application form and e-mail it to Medisort Limited or you can print the form and and post it to:

Medisort Limited
Unit A
Fort Road
West Sussex
BN17 7QU

Every health centre and GP surgery in Crawley should also have a supply of the application forms.

To ensure we understand the type of waste we are collecting we require your community nurse, GP, consultant or other health care professional to indicate the type of waste being produced and to sign the form.

Once Medisort have received your completed form they will contact you to confirm the provision of the service for you and to arrange details of the collection.

Queries can be emailed to Medisort Limited or you can phone them on 01903 719646.

All information received is dealt with in the strictest confidence.

When will my clinical waste be collected?

Collections can be made weekly, fortnightly, monthly or on request depending on the amount of clinical waste you require collecting. Collections normally take place on Mondays and Tuesdays.

What do I put my waste in and where do I leave it?

Sharp boxes or waste bags will be delivered to you before your first collection. Alternatively, your doctor may give you one or two of these bags to start off with or write you a prescription for a sharps box. These will be replaced with new ones when your clinical waste is collected.

Collection will be from within the boundary of your property at a suitable agreed collection point. This will normally be by your front door. Please note that the waste must be accessible at the time of collection.

What if my collection is missed?

If your collection is missed, please call 01903 719646 to report it.
