To ensure that Crawley is a great place to live, work and spend time in we prepare planning policies that help balance the economic, social and environmental needs of residents, businesses and visitors.
We work with developers, landowners and residents to guide and facilitate new development, and work on capital and corporate projects in order to create both a high quality environment and a high quality of life.
We use our policies to make decisions on future development within Crawley so it is important for anyone proposing development to be aware of our planning policy.
The key local planning document for Crawley is the Crawley Borough Local Plan 2030, which sets out the planning policy framework to guide development in Crawley up to 2030. The Local Plan is supported by a number of companion planning documents and considerations, which are listed below:
The National Planning Policy Framework asks Local Authorities to produce a Local Plan. This should plan for the future development of the local area, and be drawn up by the local planning authority in consultation with the community. Crawley’s Local Plan, Crawley 2030, was adopted by Full Council on Wednesday 16 December 2015. It now forms the council’s development plan and sets the planning policies under which development control decisions will be taken. The Crawley Local Plan 2030 replaces the Core Strategy (2008) and ‘saved’ policies of the Crawley Local Plan (2000).
