Salary: £24,295 - £33,213
Contract Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week

An additional out of hours allowance will be paid when your experience qualifies you to join the rota: £994.71 per annum

These are exciting times at Crawley Borough Council with ambitious plans for a brand new Town Hall building, a Transformation Programme to deliver new ways of working, clear Corporate Priorities and shared Values and Behaviours creating an organisational culture.

As a Housing Options Officer, you will be working with customers to assess their housing situation, establish and communicate the Council’s duties and work with them prevent and relieve their homelessness and achieve positive outcomes through their Personal Housing Plans. You will carry out enquiries and determine duties under the Housing Act Legislation (as amended) and issue formal and legally compliant letters and decisions.

We are looking for a pro-active individual who is able to take an innovative approach to problem solving, is an effective negotiator and can provide a high quality of service to customers with housing problems. An ability to communicate clearly and effectively to customers, landlords, accommodation providers, partner organisations and other professionals whilst providing a high quality of service and customer care to all groups of the community is essential.

You will need to be efficient and effective in extracting relevant information from customers to produce accurate written assessments and housing plans in plain English so that customers are clear on the steps that both they and the Council will be taking and expected to take to resolve their housing situation.

We are looking for an experienced Housing Options Officer who is currently or has previously working in this field and will initially shortlist on this basis. In the absence of applicants with this direct knowledge and experience, we will consider candidates for the trainee role. Full training will be provided to the right candidate who can demonstrate the qualities and skills required for the trainee role. As a trainee Housing Options Officer you will be fully supported by the Senior Housing Options Officer on a day to day basis to develop into the role.

The role will be based out of the Council’s Town Hall in Crawley and some travel around the town will be required.
