Salary: £24,295 - £33,213

Plus an out of hours allowance: £994.71 per annum


These are exciting times at Crawley Borough Council with ambitious plans for a brand new Town Hall building, a Transformation Programme to deliver new ways of working, clear Corporate Priorities and shared Values and Behaviours creating our new organisational culture.

This role requires an experienced housing options officer and is not being offered as a trainee role. You will need to have a sound knowledge of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and a clear understanding of the requirements of carrying out fast track s202 reviews.

As the Assessment Housing Options Officer, you will be working with customers to assess their housing situation, establish and communicate the Council’s duties and work with them to prevent and relieve their homelessness and achieve positive outcomes through their personal housing plans. You will specifically work within the Housing Options Assessment Service, which is the first point of contact for all approaches to the Council for housing assistance. The Assessment Housing Options Officer will use their knowledge and skill set to coach and mentor the Assessment Officers and provide their wider legal knowledge in complex cases within the service. The post holder will also hold an early intervention and triage caseload, triggering statutory duties where appropriate. The Assessment Housing Options Officer is also responsible for leading on Duty to Refer cases within the Assessment Service as well as carrying out fast track s202 review requests for s184 decisions made by the Assessment Officers.

We are looking for a pro-active individual who is able to take an innovative approach to problem solving, is an effective negotiator and can provide a high quality of service to customers with housing problems. An ability to communicate clearly and effectively to customers, landlords, accommodation providers, partner organisations and other professionals whilst providing a high quality of service and customer care to all groups of the community is essential.

The role will be based out of the Council’s Town Hall in Crawley and some travel around the town will be required.

Satisfactory clearance of Disclosure and Barring checks will be a condition of employment.
