Your personal information

The Data Protection Act 2018 protects personal data. That is data about individuals.

This data not only includes information about you but about items that are personal to you e.g. your rent account or housing benefit claim. This means that we can’t talk to anyone, including your mum, dad, friend or partner about your rent account unless you give us permission beforehand, and we would like this in writing. Please follow the link below to fill in the permission form, and send it back to us.

When we can share information

The council is under a duty to protect funds it administers. In order to do this it may share the information it holds with other bodies responsible for auditing or administrating public funds or for the prevention and detection of crime. It may also share the information with internal departments and/or external agencies to improve working practices and the delivery of services for which they are responsible. This will include checking proof of residence for debt recovery purposes. The information may also be matched to other data held by the council to prevent and detect erroneous claims.
