Hate incidents and hate crime

A hate incident is any act of hostility or prejudice that you, or any other person, feels was motivated by your perceived race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identify or disability.

Examples of hate incidents are:

  • Taunts
  • Threats
  • Insults
  • Graffiti
  • Leaflets

When hate incidents become criminal offences, they are known as hate crimes.

Anyone can be the victim of a hate incident or hate crime.

Report hate incidents so agencies can stop what is happening and provide appropriate support to those affected.
